Autumn. That time of year when we look back over the waning summer, smile at the recent memories and as the weather cools and the days get shorter we prepare for the winter ahead. Since ancient times, autumn has been associated with death. For me, there’s never a more vibrant time of year. It’s a season full of changing colour, the birds are active in their gathering of food and the trout head upstream to spawn.

Although the skies at times are grey, the colours of the autumn leaves liven the surroundings up and while there is still warmth in the ground, mushrooms pop up everywhere and while we get rain, higher up in the hills, snow falls to transform the landscape when the clouds clear. It’s a time of year where the days are still and the lakes reflect like mirrors.

Yes, autumn is a beautiful time of year.
